Hailing from Winnipeg, Elena is a versatile soprano residing in Toronto, Ontario. Elena has recently completed her Artist Diploma in Voice at the Glenn Gould School (Royal Conservatory of Music), under the tutelage of Adrianne Pieczonka and Peter Tiefenbach. She also holds a Bachelor of Music (Vocal Performance) from the University of Manitoba, where she studied with Tracy Dahl. Having grown up in a musical family, Elena has loved being on stage since childhood, whether it be in orchestra, dance, musicals, or solo day at school.
Deemed "someone to watch" (LudwigVanToronto) , Elena is a brave and committed performer, and enjoys performing in a wide variety of styles. As a frequent competitor in the classical scene, Elena's competition highlights include receiving the Kurt Weill Foundation Prize in the Lotte Lenya Competition, placing first in the North Dakota/Manitoba District in the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition, and placing first in the CFMTA National Vocal Competition. Most recently, Elena was awarded the Grand Prize at the Corcoran Concerto Competition at the Glenn Gould School.
The 2023/2024 season includes nearly a dozen solo recitals in the GTA, including a recital at the Hamilton Conservatory of the Arts with collaborative pianist Stéphane Mayer, soloing with the Winnipeg based women's choir Esprit du Choeur, joining the cast of Narnia with the Dora award winning company Bad Hats Theatre in association with Manitoba Theatre for Young People, and singing the role of Blanche de la Force in the Glenn Gould School’s spring production of Poulenc’s Dialogues des Carmelites. Elena is excited to spend the summer studying at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity in Alberta.
The season closes out with Elena as Sibella in Drayton Entertainment’s production of A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder, performing with the Victoria Playhouse Petrolia, and returning to Koerner Hall as Rapunzel in Into the Woods as part of Koerner Hall’s Special Events series. Elena is excited to have been chosen as a member of the Rebanks Family Fellowship and International Performance Residency Program at The Royal Conservatory’s Glenn Gould School, and is very grateful for the their generous support throughout the '23/'24 season. Elena is proudly represented by Dean Artists Management.
When not performing, Elena enjoys practicing and teaching yoga, reading, petting dogs, going for walks, and just generally having a good time! She is incredibly grateful for a life of making magic.
